Ubuntu 14.04 and Lenovo G50 Laptop Wireless

After installing Ubuntu 14.04 (or 14.04.1) on a Lenovo G50 laptop, the wireless is disabled by hardware switch, and pressing the switch (fn+F7) does not help.

The solution is to blacklist the ideapad-laptop module.

sudoedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local.conf (this file does not exist)
and append

blacklist ideapad-laptop


leaving a final blank line.

Reboot and the wireless should work.
